Brain tumor treatment options may vary depending on many factors.
Surgical removal is possible with many meningiomas and pituitary adenomas. However, such tumors located in the skull base may not be removed this way. Even in the event of an apparent complete removal of the tumor, it is possible to see tumor recurrence.
Radiotherapy may be used for inoperable tumors, and in cases where significant reduction of the tumor by surgery would not be possible. Radiotherapy and chemotherapy are also used post-operation as therapeutic with malignant tumors.
Vesicular stomatitis virus (VSV) has been researched for use in combating brain cancer. In research done at Yale University, VSV successfully killed, or caused to be dying, all brain tumor cells within 3 days when injected into mice with implanted human brain tumors in their brains.
Prognosis and survival rates with brain tumors vary greatly depending on many factors.
